Annie Chun's Udon Soup Bowl

J picked up a couple of Annie Chun products recently, at Trader Joe's I think. One I liked the other I didn't care for. The Udon Soup Bowl was pretty good, easy to do in the microwave and tasty with Udon, the fat ones, noodles and a vegetable flavor. I'll have that again but not too often because there was one drawback. The salt/sodium content per serving is listed at what seems like an acceptable level until you realize that there are two servings per bowl. Seen that way the salt/sodium consumed by eating the entire thing doubles and becomes, in my opinion, a much less healthy choice. Just divide it in two? Not practical especially if you have it at the office like the box suggests. For starters there's only one bowl and if you only eat half the contents that's not enough food for a satisfying lunch.

The other product was the Teriyaki Noodles. I just had those twenty minutes ago and for my taste they were too sweet and the flavor too strong for the noodles. And they were salty too. I can still taste them and while I didn't look at the nutritional info on the package I've been drinking a bottle of water while I wrote this and it's not quenching my thirst.

I MUST make this. I MUST. But first I have to find out what a sautoir is.

Scrambled Eggs With Mushrooms

Pare, wash and slice half a pound of fresh mushrooms, put them in a sautoir; cover, shake the sautoir once in awhile and cook ten minutes. Break and beat five or six eggs in a saucepan, adding seasoning of salt, pepper, nutmeg and one-half ounces of butter cut into bits. Add the mushrooms, set over the fire, stir constantly with wooden paddle, and when eggs are thick and creamy turn into a heated dish, garnish

The man says that's what Ma Po Tofu means. Who knew? Here's another classic Chinese recipe that can be done well at home. As long as you can get the ingredients. In Boston and Quincy you can get them at the Super 88 Market.

Cheerios Cereal Isn’t So Wholesome as Package Claims

>>Cereal or Drug?

The FDA took issue with Cheerios boxes that say the cereal can lower cholesterol. That statement qualifies Cheerios under U.S. regulations as an unapproved new drug, the FDA said. While the agency allows a health claim linking soluble fiber from whole grain oats to a reduced risk of heart disease by means of lowering cholesterol, Cheerios boxes have cholesterol as a prominent, stand-alone claim, the FDA said in its letter, dated May 5.

Cheerios’ online marketing of heart disease and cancer benefits also fails to include language the FDA requires about other foods that help reduce risks, according to the agency.

“The claim on your Web site leaves out any reference to fruits, vegetables, and fiber content,” the FDA letter said. “Therefore, your claim does not convey that all these factors together help to reduce the risk of heart disease and does not enable the public to understand the significance of the claim in the context of the total daily diet.” <<
